Catcher in the Rye

The story is about the teen Holden Caulfield who is lost, confused and kind of frustrated about anything around him.
It didnt interest me in the beginning, then as I was progressing I was scared because I have a boy kid and I know for sure he has to go through this phase...Last few chapters I was glued to the book, I couldnt keep it down without finishing it. His views about various issues stand out...I enjoyed it thoroughly..

"But my mother, all you have to do to my mother is cough somewhere in siberia and she'll hear you...":)

"The phonier it got, the more she cried. you'd have thought she did it coz she was kindhearted as hell, but I was sitting right next to her and she wasn't. She had this little kid with her, he was bored as hell and had to go to the bathroom, but she wouldn't take him. She kept telling him to sit still and behave himself. She was about as kind hearted as a goddamn wolf"

“It's funny. All you have to do is say something nobody understands and they'll do practically anything you want them to.”

And the best of all,
"The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause. While the mark of a mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one"

And in the end, the conversation between him and his teacher Antolini,
“Among other things, you'll find that you're not the first person who was ever confused and frightened and even sickened by human behavior. You're by no means alone on that score, you'll be excited and stimulated to know. Many, many men have been just as troubled morally and spiritually as you are right now. Happily, some of them kept records of their troubles. You'll learn from them—if you want to. Just as someday, if you have something to offer, someone will learn something from you. It's a beautiful reciprocal arrangement. And it isn't education. It's history. It's poetry.”

Once again his sister in the book confirmed that the people are insane only because of these kind of unconditional affection one receive from other/family people. In the end, when she says, "I am coming with you" i could picture that cute little kid with that innocent affectionate look :)..

This book was written in 1951, so I guess there is no copyright issue, its available all over the internet in pdf form so catch up with catcher in the rye. It was a good read.
